Quinn's Canon Background | Demacia's lore background
Quinn grew up in the rural areas of the city state of Demacia with her parents and her twin brother, Caleb. The twins both possess a strong sense of adventure, always playing pretend of slaying foes and beasts in the king's name, dreaming of becoming knights when they grow up as the quiet life outside the city just doesn't fit them. Everyone told the two that they will be nothing more than commoners, which they refuse to believe as their hearts were very passionate on their dreams. When daydreams and imaginations were just wasn't enough, Quinn and Caleb embark on their own journeys into the woods, always full of danger yer excitement. It was then that one of these adventures took the life of her brother and Quinn returned home on her own, depressed and her dreams of knighthood shattered.
On the anniversary of Caleb's death, Quinn returns to the scene where she lost her dear brother, only to discover a wounded Demacian eagle at the site. It was a rare and beautiful fledgling, still so young in the world yet it's heart had that same passion inside as her lost brother. Quinn brought the bird home with her and nursed it back to health. Rather than a pet, she actually gained a companion that she named Valor based on the courage and passion in the bird's heart that reminds her of her dear brother every day. The two begin to grow up together, a bond formed that cannot be broken. With her new ally, she picked up her dreams of knighthood once again and began to train herself physically and mentally to make her dreams a reality.
The Demacian army was skeptical with Quinn and Valor's arrival to the city grounds. Their skills and teamwork were powerful that set them apart from their peers, but how can a common-born girl and a powerful animal companion. An assassin striked down on an entire Demacian battalion, some believed it was Talon, the Blade's Shadow, a well known Noxian assassin, yet Quinn believed otherwise. Her concerns were ignored by high commands, but Prince Jarvan Lightshield the Fourth, the crowned prince of Demacia and a man that Quinn had different expectations, told her to follow her instincts. Following her heart, Quinn and Valor set out to track to assassin and the mission ended successfully. For her bravery and bringing justice in the name of Demacia, Prince Jarvan gave the team the highest honors and is placed among Demacia's elite guard. Today, Quinn and Valor serves the state as fighting icons along with becoming a champion team in the League of Legends.
Journey Into the Freljord
Not long after joining the League of Legends, Demacia became worried of their neighbors in Freljord and feared that unity can threaten it's borders. Prince Jarvan granted Quinn and Valor leave to investigate the harsh tundra.
The duo meet with Ashe, the Avarosan tribe leader, who is very welcoming that even Valor has taken a liking for her. During her visit there, Quinn learned about the different tribes and their problems, that a war looming in the future is very possible. Quinn almost lost her life after investigating the mysterious Frostguard tribe and was almost attacked by an "ice witch" when they were trying to escape. Thankfully, the duo both managed to return to Demacia to give Jarvan the information he needed.
AU History:
Born and raised by a farmer couple that works in the Agricultural Tower, Quinn and Caleb were two children with vivid imaginations. Union is their home and both wish to protect and serve it to the fullest. They both dream on becoming Rangers, to explore the outside work and interact with the Pokémon that roam the lands outside their city. Making numerous companions, finding unknown areas, and recovering things that were only lost seemed like a grand dream for the children. If there was a chance to look and go outside the city walls for a short time, they would certainly take that chance. Therefore, they set their studies to lead on to the path of their wishes and train themselves to gain the skills needed to pass the right tests. With their futures planned, Quinn believed that her and her brother can become someone important in the city of Union.
Unfortunately, Caleb's life ended early when a rampaging Pokémon attacked on one of their small adventures outside of Union.
Quinn continued to work hard in her studies yet her brother's death took a heavy toll in her heart and mind. However, as she returned to the area where her brother's life was taken, she discovered something unique. There was a certain Pokémon that was different from the common Union ones, a species that she later learns that it was a Rufflet. Quinn took a liking into this Pokémon and it seem to have taken the same that Quinn named the little bird Valor. Quinn made it a daily routine to visit and play Valor after school, giving him food, water, and medicine when needed. Valor was just like Caleb in personality that she felt close to him. With Valor's support, Quinn continue to grow up well and picked up her dreams on becoming a Ranger.
Quinn discovered her Enlightened abilities in her college years, believing to be the first in her family. Since she discovered them so late, she took extra training and lessons to control them to her advantage. One such occurrence was when she was chasing a thief who robbed from the Lightshields, a very established noble family in Union, only to catch him very quickly to her own surprise. The eldest son of the family thanked her and allowed her to assist the family if needed, which she accepted. She kept in contact with Valor, but the bird Pokémon moved on to discover new places while Quinn achieved her dreams of becoming a Ranger.
Today, Quinn has been serving Union as a member of the Rangers for a few years now along with working as a messenger and part-time guard for the Lightshield family. She has plans on locating that Rufflet that she bonded with as a child and officially becoming companions with him, as she now possess the skills needed to do so.
---REAPP SECTION---
In her previous time at Brave New World, Quinn reunited with Valor along with giving assistance to discovering new areas and help defend threats from Union. She evolved and advanced her Enlightened powers, even her arms turning into wings on her own even if fully flying is still something to learn. During the "dropped" period, she's been taking up various Rangers jobs on her own and leaving Union to explore the world on her own for a bit with her birds. After journals filled to the edges with notes and sketches, she learned that Union has danger growing on it's edges and it was the time she decides to return home.
Her previous Pokemon Team + Her previous Stats
Canon Personality:
"We knew we could become more than what we were born to, and we had no fear. When I lost you, I learned to be afraid and I forgot what it meant to dream of honor. But, I've remembered now, brother..."
Just like most Demacians, Quinn was born with spirit in her heart and a very powerful sense of justice. She is an adventurous and independent woman, always exploring the rural wilds of Demacia as a child with her twin brother at her side. While her life changed dramatically when Caleb died in a tragic accident on one of their adventures, Quinn still keeps her brother close to her heart everyday. His death gave her the solid reason that she should have fears and know what honor exactly is outside of daydreams and child's play. She does miss him dearly, but Valor has filled that void greatly ever since she found this fiery yet stubborn bird and became his companion. Even after becoming Demacia's elite ranger team and not on any missions, Quinn explores whenever she gets the chance, as the fresh air of the woods is just natural element to her and Valor. While she is loyal to her home greatly, she is very much a free spirit and is generally a good person with basic common sense. She looked up to great warriors as a child and she wants to become a figure that Demacian people can look up and inspire to be, her hardwork and efforts an example that dreams can become reality.
However, that easy-going air around her should never be taken lightly.
When by herself, Quinn can still be a force to deal with as she is strong with a crossbow in her hand along with possessing great physical strength, speed, and flexibility. She can reach places nobody else could and her sharp senses can find anything, or anyone, hidden from her sight. With Valor by her side, this duo fights with a strong strength that soldiers lack these days: teamwork. She becomes completely serious during missions, as while she is living her dreams, she refuses to let her home down. If they want information, then Quinn will certainly gather information, by sketches in her journal or eavesdropping the foe. If they want someone to be taken down, then Quinn will certainly bring anyone to justice for their crimes. During her missions, her strong focus on the objective also keeps her calm and collected, however there are moments where panic can strike her that could really danger her life or Valor's. No matter the danger, her missions always come first and she will always come back successful. She is no stranger to the struggles between a common-born citizen and a rich noble or famous military soldier, as she worked hard to be respected by her peers. She follows the same belief that respect is something earned, not given.
"For all my life, I dreamed of being here in the city. The streets are crowded. Even at dusk, I hear sounds of voices coming from the courtyard. I miss the leaves and dirt beneath my feet and the silence of the forest. Val feels it too. He's ready for our next mission. We're ready."
While most of her fellow Demacians are comrades that she greatly respects, Prince Jarvan Lightshield the Fourth is a very important person to Quinn. Not only that he's royalty, but he's one that understands Quinn and has trusted her with dangerous missions to destroy foes from the shadows and investigate lands that may be a threat to them. She always keeps her loyalties high to fellow Demacian champions, but it's not always the same with her bird companion, as his respect also must be earned just like Quinn's and Garen Crownguard is one Demacian that Valor doesn't respect at all while Quinn just finds him an important comrade.
Overall, Quinn is a free-spirited warrior whose sense of justice is strong yet knowledge of the wilds and shadows can fight any assassin. With Valor by her side, she's certainly something you have to go through if you dare threaten her home or loved ones.
AU Deviation:
In Brave New World, Quinn is generally the same as her canon personality as being a fighter for her home with having strong ties to teamwork. Valor does possess the same personality as being stubborn yet fiery bird and while he does care for Quinn, but due to Rufflets being a rare breed and Quinn not discovering her Enlightened abilities in time to talk clearly to him, he did fly out of Union to discover the world and maybe hoped that Quinn will find him someday. It's same as in canon and Brave New World that Quinn did work hard to move from lower class to upper class, despite losing her brother and not having a lot of support from peers.
Growing up in an enclosed city like Union as opposed to rural Demacia in her canon, there was always feeling in Quinn that there is more for her outside of the city instead of growing up inside city wall all the time just like her parents. While the Agricultural Tower is like "outside" with the tower's inner terrain and sunlight pouring on them, it just doesn't give Quinn that same satisfaction when she sneaked outside and experienced the outside world for the first time. As children, Quinn and Caleb do try to get outside as much as possible, even if getting caught and in trouble happens (esp. Caleb's death). Despite the consequences, Quinn matures as she ages and does try to go outside whenever she gets the chances, more so when she officially becomes a Ranger. On both canon and AU, she considers her home very important, so while Union's growth and well-being is something she considers greatly, the outside world just works more with her nature. To make it short, even if Quinn grows up in a city like Union, her spirit and sense of adventure just feels that it has a better place in in the outside world just like how growing up in the Demacian woods gives her that same sense of adventure.
Canon Abilities:
Quinn's abilities and game stats
● Harrier: Valor periodically marks a nearby enemy that is Vulnerable and if Quinn strikes said enemy, they receive bonus physical damage. Cannot occur again for a short time or when Valor is in play.
● Blinding Assault: Quinn commands Valor to fly and strike an enemy, temporarily blinding them. When Valor is in play, he strikes and blinds him temporarily.
● Heightened Senses: Passively, attacking a Vulnerable target from Harrier will grant Quinn bonus attack speed and flat movement speed for 3 seconds. Actively, Valor reveals the area from above for Quinn from hidden threats.
● Vault: Quinn dashes and leaps off and lands near her maximum attack range away from the target before attacking the target. Valor will immediately mark this target as Vulnerable.
● Tagteam / Skystrike: Quinn tag teams Valor in a fight, where the bird serves as a melee attacker with high movement speed for a short amount of time. Quinn returns to the fight after a rain of arrow bolts.
In general, Quinn is very much physical fit and flexible thanks to her self training along with training in the Demacian military. She also skilled in using a crossbow.
Enlightened Abilities:
● Typing: Flying/Fighting
● Ability: Kindred Souls
In canon, there is no magic tied to Quinn's abilities, as she is mostly physical strength-based. Instead of actually flying or growing common back wings like other Flying types, her Enlightened abilities is more of manipulating the air around her to boost her physical strength and becoming very mobile. Her Enlightened abilities will also have a relation/similarity to her canon skills. When starting out, there are currently no physical mutations due to her Enlightened abilities yet might be possible when she evolves.
● Starting Out: Quinn starts out with her average strength and speed, however she can perform small bursts of speed to help during fights (Vault) or escaping if the situation is tough. She can also generally pinpoint weak spots on a foe to figure out where is the best to strike. (Harrier)
● 1st Evolution: General strength and speed becomes stronger along with Quinn becoming much sharper in her mind during fights that she may spot a hidden foe, advantage, escape, or anything else (Heightened Senses). Her speed bursts and attack speed become stronger.
● 2nd Evolution: Again, her strength, speed, speed bursts, and attack speed become much stronger. Quinn can now strike wind at a foe to temporary blind/distract them for an advantage. (Blinding Assault)
If she fights alongside a Pokémon, she tends to perform/fight better with teamwork, but there is no special perks if a Pokémon is involved in her fights. No starting weapon has been decided at this time, but given that she's part Fighting type, her punches might hurt... A lot...
Kindred Souls has been chosen for her ability due to her skills with bonding easily with animals, specifically bird types.

[For rumors of an extremely rare bird Pokémon to settle in the western parts of the forest, there certainly have been enough Trainers trying to get the chance to bond with the golden Staraptor. The other birds have been aggressive and attacking them in defense, which is why Quinn is here.
She activates her Warp Band, showing the vivid forest while she is up a tree. Birds are swarming everywhere, but thankfully, Quinn is well hidden for now. The look on her face is determined, but also a bit relaxed.]
Alright, everyone. Most of you really need to stop attempting to find that Staraptor before you get your eyes gorged out by the locals. I'm not only protecting it, but I'm protecting you guys from it. I'll be here until the flock calms down or they migrate somewhere else.
[The Rufflet by her side softly caws towards the broadcast, a serious look in his eye. It's obviously on the defensive mode, making sure that none of the other birds spots and assaults his partner. Especially if she is making an announcement and been sketching a few common birds during the observation.]
Valor can also escort anyone back to Union if needed. If you are still trying to get to that golden bird, well... Don't say I didn't warned you. It's probably more powerful than most of us so fighting it isn't the brightest idea. I have first aid with me, but I'll be in the trees if anyone needs our help. Right, Val?
[Who responds with a proud caw.]
Third-Person:
"Quinn."
She sits straight up in the chair in front of her superior's desk as her name has been spoken. When she was first was accepted into the Rangers, she heard rumors that superiors tend to pull new and veteran members alike for various reasons. Some say it was critical missions while others say that it was a mistake and they are going to kick you out. That certain rumor leaves holes in her heart, there is no way they are going to give an Enlightened away... Would they? She had her doubts, but she didn't let her expression change from neutral. Edan sits on her shoulder, watching the whole ordeal with such interest. He's always been a curious little bird when it comes to human interaction. The older man in front of her folds his hands together, just giving her a long look before finally speaking.
"I just want to ask you a few questions. Is that alright?"
"Yes, sir." Quinn was never a person to use formalities, but this is an exception. Her career could be ask risk here if she gives the wrong answer, yet she passed all of her classes, excelled at training, and got her Enlightened abilities under control. All she can do now is swallow any and all nerves down her throat and just tell the truth. There is no reason to lie to her bosses, even if the question is really unnecessary to ask.
"First question. What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?"
Quinn looked at the little Fletchling on her shoulder, who did give a little chirp in encouragement. Edan is nothing like Valor, but he had Quinn's back whenever she needed it. He's a good little guy that Quinn bonded with easily and early in her age. She couldn't help, but to smile a little yet she has to keep her focus in this questioning. She looks towards the man again, clearing her voice and losing that smile before giving her answer.
"Pokémon are my companions and my comrades. Living with them and working with them... I find them on equal level to myself. I will always fight for them and continue to support them during their hardships."
It's true. Growing up with the ones in the Agricultural Tower along with the various types inside and outside of Union just gave Quinn a love for the mysterious creatures. Misusing them just wrong and without them, life would be so different, perhaps even more difficult. She only have officially bonded with Edan and then there is Valor, who she has no idea where he is right now.
The man replies with a small nod, his expression still the same.
"A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?"
"The Pokémon." She answered that almost too quickly that the man raised an eyebrow at her, like he was being skeptical. "If the human attacked the wild Pokémon first, then I would take action against that human. If the wild Pokémon attacked first, then I would defend that human being. One part had to start the conflict, therefore they would pay. However, getting them separated is important."
A moment of silence fills the room. It was common sense that whoever attacked first is the attacker at fault and the other party was just using self defense. That is what Quinn learned and fully believed.
"In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable?"
"Betrayal."
More silence fills the room. Quinn might have answer that stubbornly, but wasn't it the truth? That is what she was raised on, her mother telling her and her brother when they were children on the days of the past that humans betrayed the gods and Pokémon almost got them destroyed.
"I believe those who betray humanity or Pokémon should never be forgiven."
"No Enlightened chooses their abilities - and not all are Enlightened. What type abilities would you most desire to manifest and why?"
"I wouldn't change any of my abilities. Having wings large enough to fly among the birds... That would a great view from above, but I am fine with my current abilities. Beggars can't be choosers, right?"
"What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?"
"I would say that my greatest duty is protecting Union and it's people. Because... We are a struggling race, trying to survive from the mistakes our ancestors made. I don't think we can afford to repeat the past. I would protect my home, no matter how much it costs."
"What area do you seek to explore? The peaceful forest, in search of new, previously overlooked discoveries; the uncharted caves, in search of the unknown; or the wildest of mountain terrain, in search of danger, adventure, and thrills?"
"All of them. Becoming a Ranger to explore the world and have my own adventures has been an old dream of mine. Now that I complete one part of my dream, I'm sure it's safe to say that I will be working on exploring and learning new things in my future."
...
"Thank you for your time, Quinn. You may leave now."
No matter if it was an interview or just the question ritual that every Rangers had to go through at some point, it actually wasn't that bad. Quinn gives a small nod before leaving the office, finally going back into a relaxed smile once the door is closed behind her. Edan chirps in excitement, obviously happy that Quinn wasn't in trouble or didn't get into trouble.
"That was a little strange, wasn't it? You ready to set out?" she asks the little Fletchling.
"You bet!"
Given that they both literally run out of the tower and head straight for the gates, it didn't take too long for them to get outside of Union. She really feels much better outside than being in the city.
